Our Curriculum

At Hook Lane we follow the DfE National Curriculum in England: Key Stages 1 and 2 and the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.  This is a statutory programme of study and attainment targets for all subjects taught in the Primary phase.

The national curriculum aims to provide all pupils with "the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens". It sets out a core knowledge which forms the grounding upon which our teachers enhance the children's knowledge, whilst building their understanding and skills through exciting and stimulating lessons and the application of a wider school curriculum.

Our aim is to provide all pupils with a stimulating learning environment and to offer a broad, balanced curriculum which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society; and which prepares pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

At Hook Lane we deliver a creative curriculum in which the statutory requirements are delivered through themed topics. Each curriculum year is divided into five themed topics; through one of these topics we take learning a step further and encourage the children to work towards an exciting exit point which we call our 'Big Outcomes'. These ‘Big Outcomes’ enable children to widen their knowledge by planning their own class events and fundraisers in order to showcase their learning to parents and friends of the school, whilst also developing entrepreneurial skills which are intrinsic to the growth of independence.

Furthermore, it is a compulsory requirement of the national curriculum that religious education is taught at every key stage. All schools are therefore required to make provision for a "daily act of collective worship". At Hook Lane we follow the Bexley Agreed Syllabus for R.E.
